چکیده

Not many cases of phagocytosis of malarial parasites in peripheral blood are recorded. I wish to put on record two cases. The first was seen in 1943 in the blood smear of a soldier who was in an .unconscious state in I. M. H., Poona. Malignant tertian schizonts were seen phagocytosed by mononuclear cell, the picture simulating exactly the one given here : the case was fatal. The second case is described below :

Relapsing Plasmodium vivax malaria with atypical parasite forms and phagocytosis by peripheral neutrophils.

A case of atypical Plasmodium vivax malaria is presented. The clinical follow-up has allowed to characterize three consecutive malaria clinical episodes within one year. At the first attack, 39% of the infected red blood cells were parasitized by gametocytes. Furthermore, rare crisis forms, exceptional "pseudoparthenogenesis" forms, a few equatorial trophozoites, malaria pigment-containing leuc...

در بیمار مشکوک به ابولا، باید به فکر مالاریا بود: گزارش موردی

Background: One of the main reasons of hemorrhagic fevers is Ebola. The high rate of mortality and lack of definite treatment have been caused this infection to be a serious problem in the world. Ebola, especially in the early stages, when causes symptoms such as fever, anorexia and nausea, can be confused with malaria infection and conversely, severe malaria with Ebola. Plasmodium falciparum i...

Enhanced phagocytosis of ring-parasitized mutant erythrocytes: a common mechanism that may explain protection against falciparum malaria in sickle trait and beta-thalassemia trait.

High frequency of erythrocyte (red blood cell [RBC]) genetic disorders such as sickle cell trait, thalassemia trait, homozygous hemoglobin C (Hb-C), and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency in regions with high incidence of Plasmodium falciparum malaria and case-control studies support the protective role of those conditions. Protection has been attributed to defective parasite g...

A Comparative in vitro Study of the Effect of Eosin B on Asexual Blood Stages and Gametocyte of Plasmodiun falciparum

Background and Objective: Malaria is one of the most life-threatening infectious diseases worldwide. Transmission of the parasite from human to vector mosquitoes is carried out by the gametocyte of the Plasmodium parasite, while these cells are not involved in the symptoms of the disease. The control of the human to mosquito  transmission stage of the parasite life cycle by antigametocyte drugs...
